A globally
acclaimed visual artist, Dr. Samar Al Shamsi has won several titles. She holds
a PhD. in
Architecture and she was
chosen by the American Why Not Magazine as one of the 10 most successful
ladies in the world in 2009. She has also received the title of “Arabic Art
Ambassador” in the World Artists Forum in New York in 2012. She was
also awarded two Honorary PhDs from two US reputable universities, AUST and
Oxford University in the UK in addition to the Award of the Global Organization
for the Dialogue of Cultures and Religions 2013. She is the first UAE and Arab
lady to win the “Excellence in Arts” award from the Arab American Anti-Discrimination
Committee ADC in the state of Michigan (USA). At the same time, she was granted
a special award from the US Congress in recognition of her artistic
contributions and her “President Obama” portrait displayed in “The White
House”. She has also won the 2012 painting Artist Award 2012 before she
unveiled one of her masterpieces, “Arab Mona Lisa” in Abu Dhabi 2013.
Once she was
asked if she had realized all her aspirations. She answered: ”I seek to reach
my potential, but each time I achieve a goal, I find myself motivated to think
of the next step. I felt so proud when I received the title of “Arabian Art
Ambassador” at the Artists Forum in New York. The same happened when Sir John
D. Dingell, Congressman from Michigan, handed me the Distinction in Arts Award
2012 in Dearborn, Michigan and said, “You deserve this award, and we are
honored that your contributions are a source of inspiration for us and the
whole world as they helped the ADC to pave the way before Arab female worldwide,
On how she
assesses herself, Al Shamsi says, “It’s natural for an artist to assess herself
after each stage. I haven’t left my work as an architect, but what makes me
feel really happy is to be able to highlight my country’s name on any global
platform in a way that can live up to the name of the
UAE which is now globally respected. This feeling constantly makes me
challenged by many responsibilities.
On her art galleries, she says that she has organized several
exhibitions in Europe, New York, London, and many Arab countries. Fans and
lovers of visual arts worldwide vie online to acquire her paintings “in her
international exhibition . She used the art as a means to convey a sublime
humanitarian call, with several messages across cultures and boundaries, while
she kept nurturing her initiative within the Art of Humanity campaign in
Jordan for Syrian children, African, and Indonesian. One of her many titles
was the Painter of presidents as she has drawn oil portraits to several world
leaders.
Commenting on her Arab Mona Lisa portrait, which was globally acclaimed
and received considerable controversy, she says “For me, globalism is a legitimate
target I sought. Only big achievements can stick in the memory of this vast
world and the history of civilizations shows that only monumental contributions
can remain in the minds of generations.
Other than
her conceptual artistic talent, she was passionate to expand her capabilities
in new fields. Therefore, she studied law and engaged in law work with a
profound experience of 14 years and a unique aptitude to tackle multiple cases
consecutively with amplified inspiration and enthusiasm.
Dr. Samar
with her tenacious considerateness not only made marvels in the world of art
yet she continued to explore her fate drafting ways in the law industry with an
