A globally acclaimed visual artist, Dr. Samar Al Shamsi has won several titles. She holds a PhD. in Architecture and she was chosen by the American Why Not Magazine as one of the 10 most successful ladies in the world in 2009. She also received the title of “Arabic Art Ambassador” at the World Artists Forum in New York in 2012. She was also awarded two Honorary PhDs from two US reputable universities, AUST and Oxford University in the UK in addition to the Award of the Global Organization for the Dialogue of Cultures and Religions 2013. She is the first UAE and Arab lady to win the “Excellence in Arts” award from the Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee ADC in the state of Michigan (USA). At the same time, she was granted a special award from the US Congress in recognition of her artistic contributions and her “President Obama” portrait displayed in “The White House”. She also won the 2012 Painting Artist Award 2012 before she unveiled one of her masterpieces, “Arab Mona Liza” in Abu Dhabi in 2013.
Once she was asked if she had realized all her aspirations. She answered: ”I seek to reach my potential, but each time I achieve a goal, I find myself motivated to think of the next step. I felt so proud when I received the title of “Arabian Art Ambassador” at the Artists Forum in New York. The same happened when Sir John D. On how she assesses herself, Al Shamsi says, “It’s natural for an artist to assess herself after each stage. I haven’t left my work as an architect, but what makes me feel really happy is to be able to highlight my country’s name on any global platform in a way that can live up to the name of the UAE which is now globally respected. This feeling constantly makes me challenged by many responsibilities.
